Why so big? How can anyone cover 700 or 1200 acres? We have no vehicles! Germans can only walk so far & then they have to walk back to camp. In other works, the size of the size is determined by the radius the Germans can walk to and from on foot. We can't build a game around using other people's vehicles - it's way too risky, players being as fickle as they are (although it would be a bonus). And it would be a poor show if we end up with a landy and Porta's truck - if this is billed 'as real as it gets'.

Not at all keen on revisiting a site, it's a bit lazy if nothing else. That site in N Wales was big (the one TA used). We ought to be going down south though!

(KGB don't have a woodland site anymore and anyway, that was tiny)

GC can be covered from one end to the other in about 30 minutes on foot ( it's 2 km long) . The evaders have to remain hidden for 24 hours , in which time the hunters could have swept nearly 50 times on foot through the whole site. You need the space, the
evaders need to avoid capture .
As I keep saying , it's nothing like you've done before, CR came close and we captured most of the evaders within the first 2 hours, do that on this game and it will be a fiasco .

Please -either come in April to see or trust me to know what I am on about with the E&E style of game .

No, I won't come to the IED game FFS! I am not lacking trust I your fulsome experience - I am lacking trust in the abilities of a 20 or 30 man German side to cover an entire 700 acre site on foot AND keep camp/guard. They just can't physically do it. At Bryansk they were absolutely shattered just walking the length of the ambush track and back a couple of times!

We only caught the Allies at CR because we orchestrated it so we were going in the right direction - if we had been random we would have missed contact and that game would have been rubbish. I spent the whole afternoon with a squad looking for the Allies, combing an entire sector and couldn't find them - because they weren't in the right place.

Poor Stephen has been lumbered with running the entire Evaders side and this needs to be addressed. It really needs Guy an the Evaders side, sorting the searching side is going to be easy.

CERBERUS AIRSOFT is the new name in Woodland Airsoft in Northern England. We’ve secured an exciting location which will offer a totally new experience to many players in the area. Rivock Edge is set in 500 acres of mature forest plantation on one of the highest hills in Yorkshire. The area is on private land and features a road system, tracks and paths, streams, rocky outcrops, a grassy plateau and even caves. The site is easily accessible from the surrounding cities of Leeds, Bradford and Huddersfield and has excellent road links with places further away.

OK, this is how the E&E plays out in my mind (small place, very twisted, has the *occasional* half-decent idea)

The evaders (10 players or less) have cache's to locate and a final assault to put in on the Germans to achieve a strategic task (blowing up an objective?) and they have to do it without getting caught. Simple as that. No "you must be in position XYZ at X:XX Hrs to do ABC", just simply evade the Germans then blow something up. Apart from "don't get caught as Guy might decide to give you some unrequested man-love" there ain't much more to it than that.

The hunter force have only one mission. Hunt the evaders down (something I rather enjoy, as i'm a bit of a sadist at heart  )

It needs a big site. It needs one where accurate navigation is possible (for evaders to locate any cached items they may need to complete their only "mission" of the weekend) A lot of ground will be covered on foot by both sides. From a leadership POV, the evaders need someone to give them a pep talk, someone to decide on an RV for the assault, and someone to lead them on the aforementioned assault. Other than that, it's purely evasion in small groups of 3 or 4.

It's not about massive firefights, it's about tension - personally, that's one of the things I love about Airsoft. You know that moment when the rest of your team have been mowed down and you're the only one left and you know the enemy are hunting for you. That for me, is one hell of a rush.

The issue is not just in finding the right site, its in billing this event properly. It needs to be accurately described so that any punter who signs up knows EXACTLY what they're in for - 24hrs of stress & tension. Evaders need to be able to use a map and compass. They will also need to know how to live out in the woods for 24hrs (which lets be honest, most people couldn't these days!) They also need to be relatively fit - and definitely motivated.

Basically, it's hide and seek. With guns.

When we were an Empire it was run by an Empress
Now we're a country we're run by a..........

Well Jay, that's exactly what I'd expect it to be (but then what the feck do I know, Guy is the expert).

I enjoyed Churchills (one of the few that did) because of that. I don't care if I don't find an enemy for two of three hours. And one of the best rushes I've had in a game was evading three sides for five hours without doing any real evading (indeed, more like parading in front of them) - enemy walking right past you is a real buzz.

Now then, if this is billed properly then it will be low numbers - a real possibly of 5 vs 15 and the issue of site cost crops up big time. What site is there that will let you use a forest for £500? IED won't now!

Jays got it exactly right . That's how it will be . You organise the timed caches , and as organisers we can then point players in the right directons if need be ...add in a few Civvies as a way of adding interest and thats basically it . You run the game from the HF not the EF side , hence why I suggest me on the allies is a poor idea .

Doesn't take 2 organisers for ten men as they will be operating in pairs or threes for most of the first day , and as I've suggested before , if we carefully vet the allies we'll have very motivated bunnies not the usual lard asses ....same as they do at IED .

What are the Germans getting out of it? ...., we bill this are far closer to reeanctment than anything we've done before. Carry all the kit in , proper squads, proper rotation, no modern camping crap ....it'll take three of us to keep them amused with searching and tasks like we did at Eagles . They probably won't get more than a 20 minute firefight for the full 24 hours, but they'll get the tension and the living history bit .

Also as suggested before , I suggested 10 Allies ..30 Germans as the Germans seemed most keen on the idea on the ideas thread I posted, and from conversations had at Herbs .

TBH I'm getting such a negative feel for this , if you truly don't want to do it, then lets do something else instead. If your hearts not in it , then it's not going to please anyone, least of all us . We haven't even found a site yet FFS . I'm not throwing my teddy out , but if you can't "see the game" we're going to struggle .

My issues are all practical not conceptual. If you think we are going to get 30 German hard core players you are having a laugh. We are struggling to get 20 for a high profile, much vaunted game let alone something like this. Hell, if we DO get 30 Germans it will be a crap game 'cos half of them shouldn't be there! Most players are hopelessly unfit and are not capable of walking large terrain in possibly shit weather for 24hrs. We don't have any vehicles for them either.

Now then, fuck it. Where have I EVER said I don't want to do this? Everything I have said, right from the beginning of the idea, through everything we have talked about since has been all for it. You keep saying the same thing - as if I don't 'get' the idea, which is the most simple in concept of any game we have ever run. Why? Because you don't bother to read what I write! (So what's new?)

Now then, I'll ask the question again - what about the North Wales site the TA game was run at?

My 2p. I covered the most of CR site on foot with various players over the entire weekend; despite the breaks in play. Over 24hrs I'd have struggled to evade the Germans in a group; especially if those 30 Germans are split into 3-4 teams. They could sweep through and force us into the corner of a smaller site with no opportunity to evade.

Spoke ot Taffy today , he's going to have a chat this weekend with the bloke who run Alpha Omega about the Denbigh site ...home of TA3 etc.
I'm not convinced it's still a going concern , but see what happens. I've played the site, it's a bit of a bog fest in places but would suit our needs.

Feck me, this has to be worth a punt.
Op-Tactical are the outfit that have Swynnerton but they also have access to Leek Upper Hulme Range Training Area which looks big and hilly (and nicely central).

Leek Hulme Mountain Operations
LEEK AND UPPER HULME TRAINING AREA

Leek is located in the village of Blackshaw Moor in Staffordshire, on the southern edge of the Peak District National Park (PDNP), three miles north of Leek, on the A53 Leek to Buxton road. The training area its self is 1,600 feet above sea level. It consists of 2,702 acres (1,093 hectares) of rugged and challenging open moor, all overlapped by the PDNP. The area is a mixture of MoD freehold, leasehold, licensed and private land, covered by seven agricultural tenancies. The majority of the area is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), and a Special Protection Area for birds. It also contains two Scheduled Ancient Monuments. Vehicular access is by public roads and there are few tracks.
The Training Area is the largest training area in ATE WM. Again, it is used for 'dismounted' infantry training. Its rugged terrain also makes it ideal for teaching infantry skills in a challenging environment and for adventurous training.
Set in 2700acres opposite the Roaches in Staffordshire Moorlands the sit offers a unique challenging gaming environment, There are 7 x Large Farms, each with out-buildings, Roads, and rocky mountain areas, with a tank range, This area leaves itself to a multitude of gaming styles.

I know this area well and have visited it for locations. It's very bleak and open and mainly heathland, not much ability for movement in the day. I also think it's an area that's open to the public, but I might be wrong.

That said, there are lots of valleys that could provide ease of movement.

There are some general pics of the area on the link below (from my locations database), but this might not be of the specific site. The Fleet's Green location IS an MoD training facility though.

http://brochures.moviesite.biz/view/wmi ... EandE.html

If you want to do a site visit I could have a chat with Kerstin as we'd make a day of it and go for walks around here too. It's pretty easy for me to get up there.

Heh, I though the location would be convenient for you!

Anyhoo, we'll leave this until Guy gets back but don't dare say 2,702 acres ain't big enough! I can see a lot is open but heh, if you are spotted a mile away there is no way you are going to be shot at or even attacked! Besides the 7 large farms, out-buildings, roads, and rocky mountain areas all sound promising!

Right

We can have IEDs Glyn Ceriog site (Churchills) any date qe want , or meet up with A55 to get the site further over into Wales. having played both the GC site is better . Cost us £30 head , no issues on minimum numbers etc

I know Stephen not around by 5/6 Sept is the best date .

Also suggest we farm it oput to get some of PD bods as well as our regular Germans

Evaders can be led by Heide ( already mentioned idea, he is ok with that date and doing it . )
I'll dress german but frankly organise the event a la A2C or the last E&E , with the rest of you org'ing the Germans .

So, apart from my site recce next week, are we , on ?

HS - any chance you can free up this weekend

I think we would stand a much better chance to get this running in August some time - no WW2 events in that month, schools are off, people have free time. I can't see the sense in competing for players with another organised game.

Either way, with this being a weekender chaps will need plenty of notice to book work holidays for the Friday or Monday (as they do, some people will have to travel long distance) and that if we are to involve reenactors then their calendar is even more chock-a-block over the summer months.

What am I saying? I think we have missed the boat this year to get anywhere near the number of players required. Every day lost in announcing the event makes the event being a goer less likely. Even 5/6th Sept is just 13 weeks away. I'm sure we could get 5 vs 10, no problem - but that clearly won't need a huge site. 9 vs 30 players of the right mind set is a big ask at the best of times!

Anyhoo, as I said, I'm up for giving it a go even though I'm clearly doubtful it will happen - what would be the minimum numbers to make it worthwhile?
